This mug brought to us by Casa De Folklore celebrates traditional Romanian folk pottery. Its size makes it perfect for a cup of coffee - a cortado or flat white would fit just right.
The cups stack easily on top of eachother so are great to display, and would fit perfectly on open shelves or in a glass cabinet.
The cups are hand made from clay and hand painted using natural glazes made from local clays and minerals.
The pottery style, which has been perfected over more than 200 years, is known as Horezu pottery, named after the area in Romania where it is produced. In 2012, the Horezu pottery production process was awarded UNESCO protected status as an 'intangible' cultural phenomenon.
Each piece is totally unique, but all feature common themes painted with a technique called jirăvirea - such as the Sun, ears of wheat and spirals, which symbolise many things including the travelling of energy and the cycle of life.
