What to see at the Cheltenham Jazz Festival 2022

At MIMMO Studios, we love jazz! It’s such a special opportunity to be able to celebrate the genre in our hometown and it’s an absolute hidden gem. It’s always a great opportunity to see some heavy hitters in the world of Jazz in an intimate setting. You never know who you might bump into!

Here’s our run down of the unmissable music from this year’s lineup for the Cheltenham Jazz Festival 2022.

Nubya Garcia

Nbuya is a London-based saxophonist and composer. Undoubtedly the sexiest instrument, it’s called the sax for a reason! We love her Tiny Desk Concert.

Mulatu Astatke

Mulatu is an Ethiopian musician and arranger considered to be ‘the father of Ethio-jazz’. The Sunday evening slot feels like the perfect timing for this one.

Song recommendation - Tezeta (Nostalgia)

Brian Jackson

A total classic, even sampled by Kendrick Lamar in his track Poe Mans Dreams, Brian Jackson would be a good one to see to give you bragging rights.

Oluseun Anikulapo Kuti

Unfortunately this gig was cancelled, but if you’re unfamiliar with Egypt 80 we really recommend a listen. Oluseun Kuti, Son of Fela Kuti, has become a name in the world of Jazz in his own right. He’s taken over from his father at the helm of the band.

Top track - Opposite People
